random ramblings

26th September, 2001. 3:25 pm. PudgeeFeet.com!

I just found out what my birthday present was by accident! =( So Jonathan has been talking about my gift... something about ordering, having to work on it, etc. but I had NO clue what it was. I also didn't want to know because I like surprises, so I didn't try to guess. Anyway, so I remember Jonathan freaking out one night when I was looking at my site's statistics. He booted me off my computer so he could look at it, then was relieved. He wouldn't tell me what he was looking for. I never thought about it after that. Today, I was looking at my stats. My index page is the one with the splash screen, and that's the only statistics I look at, not the home page where index links to. Today, I look at it for fun and realized that there was one more visit to the home than to index, which made me curious cuz that means someone is linking straight to home and skipping my splash screen. I had been assuming that everyone goes to the index and links to home to do whatever. Now that I realize it's not like that, I look at referers and found that one of the referers was "www.pudgeefeet.com". "PUDGEEFEET.COM?!" At first, I thought that someone else had taken that name (I was gonna get that name, but never bothered cuz I figured no one will get it, so it'll be available for awhile). I was really curious to see who took my name. I click on it, and it was a duplicate of MY website... a lil incomplete, but it was MY site! I called Jonathan right away cuz I knew right then and there that I had found my gift. It's such a COOL gift!!! Thanks, Jonathan! Yup, so soon I'll have my very own pudgeefeet.com! Yippee!

I'm also taking a digital arts class right now where I have to make my own site, so this will be a good project for my class. Yeah! I just need to learn how to ftp with UCI's server.

Today, I was talking to some of the professional staff in the AV office and I started to inquire about careers in student affairs. I asked them what the requirements were for my supervior's position, since I'm helping out with the hiring process anyway. I then told them that I was interested in it because I know I love working with people, and I originally thought about high school counselor, but I don't want to work with high school kids because there are just some kids that would be hard to work with (the ones that don't want to be there). I told them that I'd rather work in a college enviroment. They got all excited and started to tell me about all the different ways I can get involved. They'll be taking me to a student affairs conference in October, so I'm excited about that. They got me really interested in this program... graduate aid? Okay, I forgot the name already, but it's basically RA for graduate halls. They told me that with my 3 years of HA experience, they'd be excited to accept me into that program. That program is cool cuz it pays for your housing, food, and TUITION! That means FREE masters degree! How awesome in that?! Then I'd like to work as a pro-staff in housing after... I'd like to come back to UCI, but not necessarily. So I'm excited cuz I think I found my career of interest... what does it have to do with Physics though?! NOTHING! I'll just have a Physics degree just to have it. I'm definantly not going to get a masters in Physics though... prolly something more fun like student affairs. I just want the experience to land the job here... or anything equivalent else where, but I'd like to come back to UCI. We'll see...

Current mood: excited.
